John has over 40 years of experience in finance and accounting for family-owned businesses in the manufacturing, fresh market produce, vineyards, and wine industries. His background includes a variety of responsibilities not only managing finance and accounting functions, but also duties related to Human Resources, risk management, and marketing.
His diverse background includes experience developing cost accounting systems, cash flow models, models to assist with labor union negotiations, and grower reports. John helped reduce past due accounts by over $2 million dollars at a manufacturing facility, prepared large operating budgets, developed a cost accounting system to identify unprofitable grapes, and saved over a million dollars by identifying issues related to litigation. He has also directed software implementations, managed financial information related to an acquisition, developed and executed new accounting and sales procedures, and reorganized an accounting department to reflect adjustments in the business climate.
John also created a system to “score” tomato fields, which determined what growers grew better tomatoes and where to grow them depending on the time of year. This allowed growers and packers to maximize profits due to better quality tomatoes. In addition, he developed a pricing system for selling produce to a chain resulting in increased sales from five semi loads to over 60 loads per week.
